Edge AdBlock removes all online ads from Microsoft Edge

Windows 10 introduces a new Web browser, Microsoft Edge (formerly known as Project Spartan). Microsoft Edge is the default web browser on both the PC and mobile device editions of Windows 10, replacing Internet Explorer 11 and Internet Explorer Mobile. Microsoft Edge comes with a lot of great features, including Cortana virtual assistant integration, reading mode, and the ability to annotate web pages. It also loads pages very very fast (and not only in benchmarks).

However, Microsoft Edge browser doesn't come with support for any kind of ad-blocking browser extensions like Adblock Plus or add-ons so that's why Edge AdBlock was born. Edge AdBlock is an Ad blocker program for Microsoft Edge browser that works as a simple to use advertisement filter and does exactly what its name suggests: it helps you block advertising banners, block flash ads, in-text ads and pop-up advertisements, browser popups and any other unwanted adware programs might get installed without your knowledge.

What is ad blocking?

Adblocking is a technology for blocking ads on webpages, before they are being loaded by the web browser. Advertising can exist in a variety of forms including pictures, animations, text, javascript layers and flash. Advanced filters allow fine-grained control of advertisements through features such as blacklists, whitelists, and regular expression filters. The benefits of adblocking is quicker loading and cleaner looking Web pages free from advertisements, and lower resource waste on bandwidth, CPU and memory.

Compared with (not yet available Microsoft Edge extensions/add ons) Edge AdBlock has the folowing advantages:

1. Blocks Ads on all web browsers like Firefox, Chrome, IE not only in Microsoft Edge.
2. You will not only block ads on websites, but also within applications like Skype, Spotify and many others, and block Ads in native Windows (Metro) Apps.
3. There's no need to keep Edge AdBlock running so you have free system resources and no slow downs at all.
4. Blocks spyware and malware too, if those server locations are added to the file.
5. Portable, does not require Java, .NET or any other bulky runtimes.
6. Efficient Internet Explorer adblocker/pop-up blocker, not only for Microsoft Edge.
7. Works on both 32-bit & 64-bit systems of Windows 7, 8, 8.1 or 10.
8. Does not install any browser extensions, add-ons or plugins, so there are no privacy concerns unlike other similar software solutions.

Edge AdBlock also has its drawbacks such as:

1. Edge AdBlock makes use of the Windows hosts file so it may need to be updated.
2. Security programs like Avira or ESET often regard a change to the hosts file as a malware attack. Other anti-virus, anti-sypware/malware, and firewall software also lock the Windows Hosts file so no one can edit it; that being the case you have to manually allow Edge AdBlock to modify your system hosts file.
3. Because Edge AdBlock tries to modify the hosts file, it may be seen as a virus by some security software. It is just a false positive. Nothing else.
